History of Laser Therapy

Therapeutic effect of laser light was discovered in 1976 by Dr. Mester from Budapest when he noticed that laser can stimulate hair growth of shaved rats. Since then, a lot of researches and clinical trials have been done. Most of them in Europe, Israel, Japan and Russia, South America. Many older studies were often inconclusive or simply showed negative results. This was mostly related to poor laser technology of that time. The negative studies unfortunately brought a bad name to Laser Therapy and many practitioners still believe that Therapeutic Lasers don’t work.

Today’s lasers are quite different. With the introduction of super pulse lasers the therapeutic effect is clear to the practitioners and the patients themselves. The super pulse lasers are able to generate beam with light density powerful enough that it can easily travel through our bodies and deliver photons to the target tissue at the therapeutic dose.

With the availability of better lasers, Clinical research on Laser Therapy is showing more positive results. It has also expanded beyond the field of pain management to such areas as heart disease, spinal cord injury, neuro-degenerative diseases, infectious diseases, and anti-aging medicine.
